When Sleep Fails to Come

Published by under Uncategorized

So when sleep fails to visit you, I guess the best thing to do is to not fight it and do some work on your images from the last weekend shoot of aspens in Gunnison County.  These are located in Horse Ranch Park on the trail to “The Dykes”.

Seeing the Forest Through all the Trees

Published by under Fall Photography,Travel

Sometimes in life you have to take the time to slow down and just look up and see what is around you, listen to the wind as it blows, smell the air and the sweetness that it contains, and to feel the dew and the grass below your feet. Opportunity is sometimes what you make of it and you have to make the most it.

Firehole Falls – Yellowstone

Published by under Travel

Getting a shot sometimes means you have to push the envelope to get where you need to be to get the shot you want. This shot below is is example of that.  Most people just shoot the falls from the road which is up higher than I want to be.  I want to shoot the falls straight on at their level.  Well that means having to climb down a steep embankment and then trying to figure a way to get back up that same said embankment all the while carrying your camera and tripod.

Thomas Jefferson

Published by under Uncategorized

Thomas Jefferson, one of the father of our country. Helped to write the Declaration and the US Constitution. 3rd President of the US. Founded great learning institutions in Virginia. But I think the best of wrote many great papers on his beliefs in government and how it should be framed and run. Maybe, just maybe the people in change in DC today make a trip to the memorial and read what is inscribed in the walls of this memorial.

Lincoln Memorial

Published by under History,Night Photography,Travel

Recently I was in Washington Dc for a business trip and the opportunity to go shooting at night.  Had two goals, Jefferson Memorial with it reflecting in the tidal basin and Lincoln Memorial.  Got them both with actually a nice byproduct of the sky being cloudy, got great coloring from the city lights bouncing up into the clouds. The clouds did not any effect on the coloring seen here, it was done using Cloudy White Balance in the camera.

Traveling on an Airplane

Published by under Uncategorized

Seems like a song title from something a long time ago, heck it may even be one.  I don’t know nor do I really care.  Sitting here in the hotel room waiting for a webex meeting and then lunch and then maybe the Air and Space Museum over by Dulles Airport and see the some history and make a few clicks.

As we go thru life, we sometimes need to take a look at the places we have been and the things we have done at those places.  I have been to alot of places and there are a lot of places I still have on my list to go to in the time I have left here.  I am realistic that I know I will not get to them all, but I also know that when I get to them, I will enjoy them to just have had the opportunity to see the place or places or the exhibits I have wanted to see.  With a love of history and how that intertwines with my love of photography and science, it makes sense to visit places like the Air and Space Muesum and buildings in Washington D.C. Even if I only vist the building and not what is inside the building, some building are the history not what is inside, I will be happy and I hope I can share that knowledge with people and the enjoyment of my visit through my images.

Back from Yellowstone

Published by under Uncategorized

Back from vacation in Yellowstone National Park. Took what seems like over 2000 images.  Heck maybe I did.  The really only bad part of the trip was that there were no clouds.  All the skies were naked.  It was nice to not be around a bunch of kids.  Still need to work on the scheduling to get the fall colors, maybe push it out for another week.  Next time will be more in Grand Tetons and Geyser basin area next time along with camping.

A New Leaf

Published by under Uncategorized

So why a new leaf? I have no idea, but yes to tell the truth, I do know.  I want to do things and I need to either get them them done or figure out how to do  them by investing the time and energy to learn to how to do them and then follow through with them. One of those thing is this blog.  I have been having the a blog site on and off for several years now, but it seems, I always let it lapse in to non attendance or failure to launch or some other lame excuse.  Everybody I known and respect in the photography world says you need a blog to communicate to the social media.  So what part of the social media do you need to communicate with.  If you have a Facebook account, you have to keep it up to date, if you have a twitter account,  well can you see where this is going. Sites also have to be mobile friendly these days also with the plethora of mobile devices in abundance now.

Since today is my birthday, I am 29 again for the umpteenth time, I have set myself a goal to setup this blog site and to finish setting up my portfolio site so I can communicate my photography to the world masses.

So here it goes!!!!
